History of the School

  • In 2004, the school earned its affiliation with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, a major milestone that paved the way for national-level academic exposure for its students. By 2006, the school proudly presented its first batch of Class X students for the CBSE internal board examinations, marking another important step in its development journey.

  • The year 2018 was yet another landmark when the school sent its first batch of Class X students for the CBSE Board examinations, affirming its full-fledged academic status as a recognized and reputed CBSE institution in the region.

  • Over the years, Army Public School, Leh has grown not only in strength and numbers but also in quality, maintaining its commitment to holistic education, discipline, and excellence—nurturing young minds in the challenging yet inspiring environment of Ladakh.

Army Public School, Leh, holds a proud legacy of serving the educational needs of the region’s youth, especially the wards of defence personnel. The school was initially established in 1983 under the name Ladakh Scouts Children School, catering to classes Nursery to VI. During its early years, the school was affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (J&K Board), continuing this affiliation till the year 2000.

  • In the year 2001, the institution underwent a significant transformation and was re-designated as Army Public School, Leh, functioning under the prestigious umbrella of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi. This change marked the beginning of its steady growth both in terms of academic standards and infrastructural development. After its conversion, one class was added progressively each year to meet the growing educational demands.

Objectives of the School

(c) To offer students the best possible facilities and opportunities to develop their personality:

  • A strong focus is maintained on enhancing communication skills in multiple languages and on building a clear conceptual understanding of all academic subjects to ensure comprehensive intellectual development.
